Equipment

    19. Harmonic light scattering set-up

Picture2_cropped.jpg

Technique

A femtosecond laser beam is focussed on the sample and the light scattered at the double and triple frequency (harmonic frequencies) is detected simultaneously, with msec time resolution and polarization resolved.

Units

femtosecond laser (wavelength tuneable 700-1300 nm), spectrometer and CCD camera.

Instrument type

home made

Complexity level

high

Applications

- able to determine second-order and third-order nonlinear optical properties of molecules and polymers.

- performs in-situ measurements of aggregation and crystallization effects

- allows symmetry determination of molecules and nanoparticles
