Practical Arrangements
Get started The CFAS uses advanced laser technologies for spectroscopic and imaging measurements to observe excited state dynamics in real time. These techniques are both costly and hazardous.

The use of instruments is charged based on their acquisition costs and maintenance costs, cataloged in three classes: basic, moderate and advanced. The cost difference between user types is based on whether they are affiliated to and obtaining financial support from KU Leuven (internal and external users) and whether they are research or commerce oriented partners (academic or industrial).

For all type of users, the core facility provides 1-to-1 customized training for the specific questions to be addressed, to guarantee the training quality. For new users and new requests, an in-take meeting will be arranged, the core facility manager will take the lead in arranging the in-take and will consult in-house experts to suggest best solution for each specific request. The in-take meeting is to guarantee the best service and the best efficiency in instrument usage, and will not generate extra costs for users. A laser safety training will be provided for all users.

Additionally, for one-time measurements, if the users would not operate the instruments on themselves, the core facility manager will arrange in-house technicians or experts to conduct the measurement and initial data analysis for the users when requested. In this case, extra charge related to the increased personal cost will be implemented.

The Laser Safety training program is intended to help those undertaking research activities that involve lasers or high intensity light beams. In complying with internal regulations, the training is mandatory to all users.
Users must complete safety training before gaining access to the facility. Once you have access, facility staff will train you to use the equipment.
